The XL Twin bed base worked perfectly. It only took about 15 minutes to unpack the two boxes and assemble it. We used it with our existing foam mattress, and it is very comfortable. When it's flat, we don't even know we're on an adjustable bed: there is no sag at the ends, and it feels like a solid platform bed. The motor works quietly even when lifting both ends simultaneously while fully loaded. We left the included legs and casters off because we were replacing one side of an Ikea Malm king-sized bed, and we wanted it to be the same height of the other side. Without them, the top of the platform is about 10.5" off the floor, so we used a sheet of plywood to raise the other side half an inch for a perfect height match. The platform is an inch or so smaller than the mattress, and it fit it inside the bed frame.
Bottom line: since we already had the mattress, we got a really good adjustable bed setup for $799, and that's hard to beat.

WE OWN 5 OF THESE LEGGETT & PLATT MECHANICAL BASES.
ONE AT HOME WE LOVE (QUEEN). IN FACT, WE LOVE IT SO MUCH WE OUTFITTED OUR SHORT TERM RENTAL CONDO WITH FOUR OF THESE ADJUSTABLE TWIN XL BASES - TOPPED WITH TEMPUR-PEDIC MATTRESSES.
FRANKLY, I DON'T THINK TEMPURPEDIC IS NECESSARY. THERE ARE VERY GOOD ALTERNATIVES OUT THERE. HOWEVER, WE GIVE A STRONG RECOMMENDATION FOR THE BASES.
NEVER HAD ANY MECHANICAL ISSUE WITH THEM - (KNOCK ON WOOD).

Once assembled this bed does work very well and the assembly is, indeed very straight forward and can be done easily. Its far better if you have a 7/16 inch ratchet wrench rather than using the supplied 7/16 wrench which is quite inadequate.
But, be warned, my base arrived (rather quickly actually) without the motor attached to the base. Long story and much grunting later:
1) there are no supplied instructions about how to attach the motor and its confusing.
2) [...] is a YouTube video on how to replace the motor - without that I never would have got the right configuration.
3) It took me more than an hour to put the motor on - I had take off the flanges in order to put the cross bars through them. In addition, getting the motor to lock on to the hinge like things on the cross bar was not easy.
But I figured it out and the unit does work great.
